Who is Laura González?
Laura it’s me and I’m great xd. I’m the person behind Waverley, which I launched in 2013 because I wasn’t quite sure about what to do after I finished studying fashion.
How did you start in the world of fashion?
Thanks to the internet. I started with the usual back then, with Fotolog-blog-Tumblr, and sharing and commenting on what I liked the most in fashion. I come from a very small town and when I was little I didn’t really have much to draw inspiration from. I guess if I’d been born a 10 or 15 years later I wouldn’t be doing this.
How would you describe your designs?
They are very youthful, colourful and with lots of prints. I don’t think anyone could wear them, but this is the creative phase I’m going through now. I may do something more serious in the future, but I hope not to end up doing something minimalistic and single-coloured.
What does inspire you?
STEPHEN LYNE ♥ lol I’m kidding! A lot of different and varied stuff –American youth culture and the idea of romanticism, mainly, as well as things I discover in films, painting, music, photography, fashion… Nexflix. Just things that catch my attention, personal stuff.
What are your favourite designers?
♥Rodarte♥ Everything Raf Simons does. I also love Calle del Mar.
How you do dress on a day to day basis?
Just regular clothes, depending on where I’m at. In a big city I wear anything. I’m my little town I try to keep a low profile because I think people would feel embarrassed haha.
What do you like the most about fashion?
It’s a tool for self-expression. Many people think it isn’t, that it’s banal stuff, but it says a lot about what people are like. It also connects with different cultural and artistic movements and moments.
And what do you like the least?
The cynicism. Today fashion has become something rather frivolous that has little to do with the concept of “fashion”. There are massive ad campaigns of shitty products, sometimes it promotes racism and an unrealistic image of the human body.
Where do you see yourself in the near future?
I guess I’ll be around. I have an idea of where I’d like to be and hopefully I’ll manage to get there.
